The World Memon Organisation (WMO) is an international umbrella organization of the Memon Community serving its community members and humanity at large through its eight chapters around the world namely Pakistan, Middle East, Far East, India, Europe, Africa, North Africa and North America.
The WMO is engaged in various welfare activities to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent and underprivileged members of the Memon Community. Two major schemes address two key problems faced by the Memon Community – namely Education & Housing.
Education for All
Currently, around 10,000 students are being benefited by this scheme. A sum of Rs. 100 million (US $ 1 million) has been earmarked for the current year 2014-15 for Education up to Intermediate Level. It is expected that the number of students will go up to around 11,000 by the end of 2014.
WMO Scholarships for Higher & Professional Education
The WMO, since inception, has provided financial help to needy students of the community to pursue higher and professional education in various fields. There are presently 1,048 such students who are receiving assistance from WMO. The number of students is expected to rise to 1,300 by the end of 2014 for which current annual budget is Rs. 50 million (US $ 500,000).
WMO Rehabilitation Scheme
The WMO Rehabilitation Scheme was started in the year 2004 wherein 7,225 applications were received. So far over 2,000applications have been approved for financial assistance for acquiring flats/houses. For the year 2014, WMO needs an amount of Rs. 50 million (US $ 500,000) for the Rehabilitation Scheme.
The Memon Industrial & Technical Institute (MITI)
The Memon Industrial & Technical Institute (MITI) was inaugurated on 31st May 2009. At present, more than 18,000 students (12,000 females and 6,000 males) are being trained per annum in over 50 different technical, vocational and I.T. courses. Since inception, a total of around 50,000 students (male and female) have been trained. The MITI has been approved as a City & Guilds International Center and has also been registered with the Sindh Board of Technical Education.
WMO Rozgar & Micro Finance Schemes
Through the courtesy of a generous donor, WMO has distributed under the Rozgar Scheme 58 Auto Rickshaws and 481Sewing Machines, at a cost of Rs. 13,881,290 (US $138,812) to needy families to enable them to earn a decent livelihood. And through the WMO Micro Finance Scheme, small loans are given to micro entrepreneurs of the Memon Community to help them advance their small businesses. So far, 136 small businesses have been helped.
WMO Memon Census Project
The importance of Census of the Memon Community to chalk out appropriate plans for healthcare, education, rehabilitation, etc cannot be overlooked. The WMO has been working on this project for many years and very useful statistical data of the Memon Community has been collected such as socio-economic status, profession, number of family members, education level, etc. WMO has so far collected data of 38,560 families (170,185 individuals), which is estimated to be 25% of the total Memon population residing in Pakistan. Many Memon Jamats of Karachi and Interior Sindh have joined hands with WMO in this endeavor.

The current Annual Budget of WMO Pakistan Chapter is around Rs. 200 million (US $ 2 million) which we expect to achieve through your generous support, which would enable WMO to alleviate the sufferings and miseries of the less-fortunate members of the Memon Community. We urge you all to please come forward this year as well and give your Zakat and Donations to WMO.
